The following is a listing of mental health resources in and around the city of New Haven, Connecticut. While we aimed to compile a variety of resources based on needs and services offered, you may find other resources within your school system or through resources found in the links below.

The Parent Child Resource offers mental health services, prevention, and early intervention programs. Among the services offered are:
Child Guidance Clinic
The Child Guidance Clinic is a state-licensed outpatient psychiatric clinic for children which provides a multi-disciplinary approach to problems associated with behavioral, emotional and learning difficulties of children and youth aged 3 to 18.
Rapid Response Service
A program of the Child Guidance Clinic, the Rapid Response Service provides urgent evaluation and psychiatric care for children and families in crisis.
Intensive Outpatient Program
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) focuses on children between the ages of 5 and 18 who have difficulty meeting school, family and/or social expectations due to serious emotional, behavioral and social difficulties. Children attend daily group sessions for approximately 8-12 weeks which emphasize problem-solving and coping skills, emotional expression, learning how emotions and actions work together, and identifying behavioral and social disturbances. Treatment also includes play, art and drama therapy, psychiatric services, and active parent/family involvement.
Early Childhood Consultation Partnership
The Early Childhood Consultation Partnership is a mental health consultation system for young children. The program is free to parents and early care and education programs throughout Connecticut. The ages served are birth through five years. The program builds the capabilities of caregivers and parents by offering support, education, and consultation to promote enduring positive outcomes for young children. Several levels of service are offered, including: phone consultation, child-focused service, and classroom service.
Prevention Through Early Intervention Program (PEIP)
The Prevention Through Early Intervention Program (PEIP) is provided in early care centers, preschools, and kindergartens to help children develop social and emotional skills that will prepare them to successfully transition to elementary school. The program also provides ongoing consultation and guidance for staff, and regular communication and updates for parents.
Today’s Choices
Today’s Choices is an evidence-based clinical and educational program to help youth ages 13 – 18 understand the importance of the choices they make every day, and how those choices result in opportunities as well as consequences. The program also helps parents learn about adolescent struggles, how parents’ behavior impacts the choices their children make, how to improve communication with their children, and how to help their children make more effective choices.

Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) is an enduring collaboration between the Connecticut Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services and the Yale University Department of Psychiatry.

IRIS
Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS) is a non-profit agency whose mission is to help refugees and other displaced people establish new lives and contribute to the vitality of Connecticut’s communities. IRIS helps newcomers on the road to self-sufficiency by providing lifesaving support during their transition to life in the United States. Health and Wellness Support and Education and Youth Services are among the many the many services IRIS offers. These services seek to address the physical and mental health needs of refugee and immigrant families and include: offering emotional and academic support to youth, liaising with schools and families, scheduling and accompanying clients to medical appointments, assisting with translation, hosting health literacy workshops, and facilitating programs that foster cross-cultural socialization, emotional well-being, and empowerment.
Post-Traumatic Stress Center
Yale Child Study Center Community and School-Based Programs
The Yale Child Study Center offers numerous community and school-based programs that foster well-being in young people. Among their programs related to trauma-informed practice is the Yale Center for Traumatic Stress and Recovery (YCTSR). YCTSR is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team with the goal of providing trauma-informed treatments and services to children and families, building professional knowledge through clinical research, and advancing the field of child trauma treatment through collaboration, training, and dissemination.
YCTSR Trauma Clinic offers a range of treatments and interventions for children, adolescents, and families who are experiencing traumatic reactions and disorders following violent or overwhelming events including: physical abuse, sexual abuse and/or assault, community and school violence, domestic violence, animal attacks, motor vehicle crashes, unexpected or sudden death of a loved one, fires, racial trauma.
